It’s only been a couple of weeks since I had to go wheat free (and almond free, for that matter) and I find what I miss most so far is pizza. Like, real restaurant bought pizza place pizza. Homemade never quite tastes the same…but sometimes frozen can come pretty close. So I decided to try all the wheat free pizzas I can get my hands on and keep a list of them here. As always, please double check current ingredient lists before buying them!
Side note: Prices are as of the last time I bought these pizzas and may vary by location or date
Sky's Top Three
Ratings Explained:
Awesome: Tastes as much like traditional pizza as I feel I’m going to find
Pretty Good: Not bad, but not as good as traditional taste for one reason or another
Good: Definitely tasty, and better than others, but not a favorite by any means
Ok: It’s edible. Not bad, per se, but I’m not going out of my way to buy it
Nope: Yuck. I will not buy it again unless they change the recipe
The Pizzas (in alphabetical order)
Four Cheese Review: I wasn't sure how this would go. Judging by hummus, chickpeas have a pretty distinctive taste to them. However, when eating the pizza, I could barely tell it was a chickpea crust. If I hadn't known, I probably would have just thought that it was slightly odd tasting, but not bad. And what surprised me too...the crust crisped up! Not just the edges, but also underneath in the middle, everything was nicely cooked and a little bit golden brown. It smells like real pizza too, which is another advantage.
Verdict:
Four Cheese: Awesome

Sauce: Tomatoes, Date Powder, Salt, Basil, Garlic Powder, Oregano.
Uncured Pepperoni, Mushroom and Sausage Review: I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find a plain cheese pizza to try first, since I'm not a huge fan of sausage. However, when I tried the pizza, it was better than I expected, sausage and all. I did learn the hard way that it doesn't thoroughly cook quite as fast as some of the other pizzas I've tried (or maybe I was just impatient?) but I still really liked it. I will definitely be buying this one again at some point and look forward to trying to find their other flavors.
Verdict:

SAUCE: WATER, TOMATO PASTE, EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, BALSAMIC VINEGAR, SEA SALT, BASIL.
For a veggie pizza, the fact that it has only peppers (albeit all three colors) is a little odd. It didn't taste bad, but even though this was the first gluten free pizza I tried, I knew it wouldn't be a favorite. The crust only crisps up on the edges, and not at all in the middle, even when cooking directly on the rack. It does, however, reheat tasting exactly the same as the first time you cook it, which is nice. The price is hard to beat as well--I found a three pack of these at BJs for only $15.
Verdict: Ok

Pepperoni Review: I took one bite and was immediately impressed...this tasted pretty close to real pizza! It does have more cheese on it than some other frozen pizzas I've had, and the sauce was a decent sauce as well. And too, how can you go wrong with pepperoni?
The edges crisped up nicely, though the middle did not. It also retained the good taste when being reheated, though I noticed that the crust got a little soggier. Not enough for me to really care though.
Spinach Review: I did not pay attention and did not realize it was not tomato sauce until I made it. It's not bad, but I'm not a huge fan of white sauce type sauces so the rating went down a bit for that one in particular.
Verdict: Depends on flavor:

Supreme Review:
I don't usually like supreme pizzas with all the meat along with the veggies, but to my surprise, I liked this one. It's not too heavy (although pieces fall off all the time when you're cutting the pizza!) and the crust tastes pretty good. However, I rate it as more a homemade taste than real pizza. I'm curious to find if they have a plain pizza, but haven't seen one yet. I will still keep getting this pizza since it's one of the cheapest I've seen with a good enough taste to want to keep eating it.
Supreme: Pretty Good

Roasted Vegetable Cauliflower Crust Review:
I was happy to see that this pizza had more than one type of vegetable on it. And the vegetable pieces are pretty big too! The crust is nice enough, and I like this pizza enough to have bought it twice already, although part of that is because you can get a 2pack at Costco. It's not quite like actual pizza, so it doesn't get an awesome rating, but I will definitely keep buying it and am going to be on the lookout for the other kinds.

I like this brand's Soy Milk, so I thought the pizza was worth a try. I didn't really like it though it wasn't bad either. I mean, I did eat the whole pizza! It smelled a little weird while I was cooking it, and when I double checked the box, I noticed that it doesn't have real mozzarella, but rather "mozzarella style shreds". Which seems odd to me considering that the other cheeses on it are the real thing. The middle never crisped up underneath, of course, but the crust itself seemed fine. The price is one of the best I've seen so far.
Verdict: Ok

Margherita Review: I admit, at first I was really confused as to why a margherita pizza had peppers on it, looking at the box. However, those little red pieces were tomato! Which makes much more sense. I admit to adding a little extra mozzarella to this pizza to cover the gaps in the cheese. It cooked really nicely, and the edges crisped up just right. The middle, as seems to be the case with all gluten free crusts, did not tan or crisp. I couldn't tell that the crust was cauliflower. The sauce had a slight kick to it, although it wasn't spicy, and that was nice.
Verdict:
Cheese: Pretty Good

Broccoli crust sounded interesting to me and definitely worth a try. I went with Mediterranean style since I couldn't find a plain cheese. The pieces of spinach are so big that they were still a little soggy when the pizza was cooked. Other than that though, while the crust definitely has an interesting taste to it, I liked it. The feta was good too, and I love cooked peppers.
Verdict: Good-Pretty Good

So this one was a bit my fault...I didn't realize it was vegan until it was too late to put it back. Since I love cheese, I wasn't crazy about the idea of a vegan pizza, but figured as long as I bought it, I might as well try it, just so I know.
As a non-vegan, I have to admit I don't really like it. The crust was good, and crisped nicely around the edges, though not too much. The sauce seemed a little off at first but was easy to get used to and was pretty good. The pepperoni smelled like real pepperoni and tasted decent as well. The "cheese" though... there wasn't too much of a taste to it, so I didn't mind for a bit. But the longer the pizza stayed out, the more it cooled down, the more the texture of the "cheese" turned kinda slimy, and I could taste that the crust was getting a little soggy as well. This is the first wheat free pizza I've tried that I haven't been able to finish, and it was because of that texture. I did see that they have just vegetarian pizzas, which means real cheese, and I liked the crust enough before it got soggy that I might try one of those, but as for the vegan one? It's not for me.
Verdict: Nope

The box on the picture definitely looked good! As with most gluten free pizzas, I found that the middle didn't crisp up at all. Because pizza in America is usually eaten by hand, the fact that the sauce and cheese left almost zero crust on the edge to hold it with was a downside to me but may be a plus to crust haters. This was also the first gluten free pizza I've had that the cheese ran over the edge and melted onto the rack a little! Also, to me, the sauce tasted just slightly...bland? off? Not super much, but enough that I noted the sauce wasn't as good as other pizzas I've had. But the thin crust is really good.
Verdict: Good
